The American actress was convinced that she had to play the role of Harley Quinn, the crazy girlfriend of the Joker, when in 2012 Christopher Nolan called her to the audition for Catwoman.

Anne Hathaway recently released an interview on the BBC Radio 1 radio channel in which she revealed an amusing background concerning her audition for the role of Catwoman in the 2012 film The Dark Knight - The Return.

In 2012 the Harley Quinn character had not yet found the worldwide fame that would rain on her with the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, when she was played by the talented Margot Robbie. Just at that time there was a rumor of a possible presence in the last film of the Nolan trilogy on the bat man.

Rumors wanted that, despite the late Heath Ledger's death, there was an intention to show at least in part the presence of the Joker inside the Arkham asylum. For this reason, as told by Hathaway, she came to the audition dressed for the occasion, convinced of having to play the role of the girlfriend of the criminal handle of Gotham.

«I went in and had this beautiful Vivian Westwood, a kind of tailored top by Vivian Westwood, beautiful but well-kept, with stripes that go everywhere. And I was wearing these flat Joker-style shoes. I was trying to give Chris these crazy little smiles. an hour after the meeting she said, «Well, I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but it's Catwoman.» And I was about to leave. And I started to change my attitude. «Ok, we're stealthy. We're stealthy. And I hate mine I love my shirt, but now I hate it. We are stealthy '».

Harley Quinn, at least for the foreseeable future, will be played again by Margot Robbie, who appeared in her role in Birds of Prey and will do it again for The Suicide Squad, the reboot by James Gunn. As for Catwoman, however, the role was entrusted to the young Zoe Kravitz. This was in fact called to play the role of the cat woman in the film The Batman by Matt Reeves. Just from Hathaway came enthusiastic support after the news.
