This is how Dolly Parton (74) never imagined her life before. The American started her career in the music industry in the 1970s. Over time, she became one of the most successful country singers and has so far received 25 first places in the charts. But while her career was like a dream, her private life wasn't always perfect. Dolly now revealed why she could never become a mother.

Dolly originally planned to have six children with husband Carl Thomas Dean. The two had already thought of a name, as she told in an interview for the book Dolly on Dolly. But in the early 1980s, the artist suffered from internal bleeding caused by endometriosis that was later diagnosed. This caused her uterine tissue to expand to neighboring organs. At the age of 36, she had to undergo an operation that removed her uterus so that she could no longer have children naturally.

As a result, Dolly fell into a depression in which she developed an eating disorder and drank a lot of alcohol. «Suddenly, I was a middle-aged woman. I went through a hard time pulling myself out of there,» she admitted. Even though she and Carl briefly considered adopting, the godmother of Miley Cyrus (27) ultimately decided against becoming a mother.
