In an interview with the BBC, Robert De Niro gave a deep insight into his soul life during the corona lockdown. He also sharply criticized US President Donald Trump.
Forced break in the dream factory: The film industry has been standing still for weeks because of the corona crisis - and nobody knows when it will continue. So Robert De Niro remains nothing but the hope of an early easing of the situation. This is anything but easy for the two-time Oscar winner. In an interview with the BBC, De Niro painted a sad picture of his everyday life in the «ghost town» of New York.
«It's surreal. But then you see that other parts of the world, other big and great cities are in the same situation,» said the 76-year-old. It feels like science fiction has come true, the screen icon complained. Despite the difficult situation, De Niro highlighted New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's accomplishments: «He did a great job.»
While he only found words of praise for Cuomo, US President Donald Trump did not get away well. «Everyone is confused and stunned at what this guy is doing,» rumbled De Niro, who had criticized Trump several times in the past. The actor accused the President of serious omissions in dealing with the Corona crisis and described him as an «insane».
De Niro also said, «It's disgusting: he just wants to be reelected. He doesn't care how many people die.» Even his voters don't care about Trump, as the Hollywood star said: «The people he claims to be important to him are the ones he detests most.»
